Fibers

Fibers I have worked with:

Wool

I just have to remember that different breeds of sheep have different qualities to their wool. I have spun Merino, Rambouillet, Clun Forest, Lincoln, Corriedale, Jacob, and a couple of other unidentified fleeces.

Silk

I have spun silk but haven't had a chance to reel yet. It takes dye differently than wool. I love the sheen.

Camel

A reddish tan. Very straight and spun similar to alpaca.

Alpaca

Soft and warm.

Flax

Needs a totally different drafting method to spin.

Mohair

I've spun it blended with wool. I love the halo it gives the yarn.

Soy Silk

Very similar to silk as the name suggests.

Yak

The yak down was a very short fiber that wanted to be spun into thin singles. I imagine that it would be difficult to blend with other fibers although short staple cotton might work.

Inego

I've spun just a little bit of this. It's a lot more cob-web like than regular silk. Very difficult to control in any sort of breeze or draft.

Fibers I have not yet spun:

Silk Latte

Angora

Unfortunately, angora will never been in my "fibers I have spun list." While I'm sure that there is washing that can be done to remove the allergens, I'm too allergic to rabbit to risk giving it a try.
